"I'd like to have been around for longer - places to go, people to meet, doing my bit to save nature so people can live healthily & happily - maybe you can do a little bit of this for me..." Carolyn Parsons 2007
This annual award has two categories - individual and school. Entries are invited from Tasmanian students, Grades 5 to 10.
Have you done something in your community, school or household that will help create a "better tomorrow", doing your bit to help the environment or raise awareness about a social justice issue so people can live safely, healthily & happily? We are looking for students who, through their own or school initiative, have done something positive towards making Tasmania a great place to live.
Fill in the attached application form outlining your initiative for environmental or social justice awareness.
Here are just a few examples…
- Introduced a recycling program at home, school or in the community.
- Assisted someone to improve his or her quality of life.
- Influenced your school to reduce its carbon footprint.
- Raised community awareness on an issue that is important, such as animal
or human rights, poverty or sustainable living.
- Any student in Grades 5 to 10 attending school (including home schooling)
in Tasmania willing to present or display their own unique project is eligible
to enter.
Applications close during November 2009. Winners are expected to present their entry at an Award ceremony to be held in Term 3.
You can demonstrate your project through a variety of ways, including, but
not limited to
- PowerPoint presentation (12-14 slides)
- Poster
- Speech
- Painting or other art work
- Photos
- Written document/ essay (approx 1000 words)

For initial judging purposes please attach your project to the application form; however if it is a model or some other type of presentation that can not be emailed, please attach a photo etc instead. Whatever you send to us may be retained for future use.
Although presentation is important, the judges will be looking more at the content of your work. We are looking for independent, sustainable ideas.
